Mercedes Reportedly Offer Shares to Adrian Newey to Block Ferrari Move

Formula One design legend Adrian Newey has been offered a lucrative contract, including team shares, by Mercedes to prevent him from joining Ferrari, according to reports from F1 Insider.

Newey announced his departure from Red Bull earlier this year after a highly successful 19-year stint. Widely regarded as one of F1’s most influential designers, Newey’s cars have contributed to a staggering 13 World Drivers’ Championships.

With his next move a major talking point, speculation has intensified about a potential switch to Ferrari, especially with Lewis Hamilton’s impending arrival at the Scuderia.

However, Mercedes appear determined to disrupt those plans. F1 Insider reports that the Silver Arrows are making a strong play for Newey, potentially offering shares worth a staggering £1.1 billion. This bold move reflects Mercedes’ desire to reclaim their position at the top of F1 after recent dominance by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

The report further suggests that Mercedes’ ideal scenario would involve bringing both Newey and Verstappen to Brackley, forming a dream team capable of wrestling back the championship.

Despite the enticing offer, Newey seems hesitant. Apparently, he has reservations about working alongside Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff, fearing an overly controlling environment similar to his experience with Christian Horner at Red Bull. This raises concerns about potential internal politics hindering his work if he joins the Silver Arrows.

Newey’s decision remains unclear, but it’s certain to have a significant impact on the upcoming F1 season.
