McLaren boss Andrea Stella echoed the sentiments of Christian Horner, suggesting that Mercedes might make a strong comeback in the 2024 season as the development race heats up.

Throughout this season, Mercedes has found itself locked in fierce battles for podium positions with teams like Ferrari, Aston Martin, and McLaren. Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing has remained unassailable at the front of the pack. Although the Brackley-based team did possess a potentially race-winning car in Singapore, they failed to capitalize on it, losing out to Ferrari in qualifying.

Andrea Stella, the McLaren boss, however, remains optimistic about Mercedes’ capabilities, stating, “We don’t know whether we are developing faster than other teams. And above all, we don’t know whether we are developing faster than Red Bull. And let’s not forget that Mercedes, I think they realized what they need to work on. And I suspect they’re going to jump back quite strongly. There are no factual elements at this stage to say this is the pecking order we’ll see next year. I think things can evolve.”

Stella’s predictions align with those of Christian Horner, who also anticipates a resurgence from the Silver Arrows in 2024. Mercedes has already confirmed a shift in their design philosophy for the upcoming W15, signaling a departure from the ‘zeropod’ experiment that plagued the W14 from the beginning.

As the current Formula 1 season draws to a close and teams gear up for the development battle for 2024, the motorsport world eagerly awaits Mercedes’ response to their challenges this year. With both team leaders expressing confidence in Mercedes’ ability to bounce back, the stage is set for an exciting and unpredictable season in 2024. Formula 1 fans can only watch and wait to see if the Silver Arrows will return to their former glory.
