Jarno Trulli Now Shares Which Current F1 Driver Should Replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes

Formula 1 driver Jarno Trulli has weighed in on the ongoing driver market drama, stating that if he were in charge of Mercedes, he would opt for Fernando Alonso to replace Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season.

The motorsport community was left in shock following the announcement of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari for the upcoming season. Speaking exclusively to Formula Passion, Trulli expressed his preference for the two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, to take the reins at the Silver Arrows next year. Trulli’s comments have added an intriguing dimension to the unfolding narratives set to dominate the Formula 1 landscape in 2024.

With the focus on Mercedes, Trulli believes that Fernando Alonso, whose contract with Aston Martin concludes this year, is the prime candidate for the coveted seat. Despite nearing the twilight of his career, Alonso’s exceptional speed and experience could be the ideal match for Mercedes, providing their emerging talent with the necessary time to acclimate before taking on a leading role in the team.

In response to inquiries about his preferred choice for Mercedes, Trulli stated, “If I were in Mercedes, I would take him [Fernando Alonso], and he would jump into a car that finally works.”

Meanwhile, Alonso, currently focused on the upcoming 24-race season, remains tight-lipped about his future. When questioned about the prospect of joining Mercedes, he humorously pointed out that he is the sole available world champion in the market—a factor that aligns with Trulli’s endorsement.
