Flavio Briatore Criticizes Max Verstappen’s Dominance in the 2023 F1 Championship

Former Formula 1 team principal Flavio Briatore recently voiced his concerns about Red Bull driver Max Verstappen’s unprecedented dominance in the 2023 F1 championship. In an interview with Autosprint, Briatore praised Verstappen’s extraordinary driving skills but expressed his reservations about the impact on the overall excitement of the racing season.

Flavio Briatore, renowned for his successful tenure with Renault in Formula 1, acknowledged Max Verstappen’s exceptional talent but criticized the lack of competition in the championship. He stated, “The Red Bull team is extremely strong, and Max Verstappen is doing nothing wrong. He is an extraordinary driver. Unfortunately, Max Verstappen ruined the world championship a bit. I hope there will be more excitement next year; otherwise, it won’t be fun anymore.”

Briatore reflected on Verstappen’s prowess, noting, “Max Verstappen is really one with his car, especially when we consider that Sergio Pérez has the same car. You really see the difference with Verstappen, who does extraordinary things. But Red Bull has an advantage that I think is difficult to undo at the moment.”

Flavio Briatore, who played a pivotal role in the success of drivers like Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher, highlighted the uniqueness of Max Verstappen’s control over the 2023 championship. While acknowledging the Red Bull team’s strength, Briatore questioned the impact of one driver winning so many races on the overall spectacle of Formula 1.

The sentiment expressed by Briatore resonates with other teams in Formula 1, as Verstappen’s dominance overshadowed the competition. Every team, except Red Bull, would likely agree with Briatore’s sentiment that a more balanced competition would have been preferable.

Flavio Briatore acknowledged the strength of the Red Bull team, emphasizing the difficulty of challenging their advantage at the moment. Despite the concerns raised, he recognized that Red Bull had created a formidable combination with Max Verstappen behind the wheel.
